St. Francis is widely known to have a great love for nature. He invited all of creation to give honor and praise to the Lord. He believed that nature itself was the mirror of God, reflecting His glory in its beauty. The Garden Committee invokes the Saint's spirituality, and that of the parish Patron in their work beautifying the parish grounds.
A statue depicting St. Francis greets visitors to the Memorial Garden. Images of Mary, Our Holy Mother, arms outstretched, welcome her children to discover the wonder of creation in the informal garden spaces. The perennial plants and shrubs create a foundation for the landscape that celebrates the beauty of changing seasons with flowering annuals.
Each Monday members of the Garden Committee begin with celebration of the Mass at 9 AM, then head out to the parish gardens. They spend upwards of two hours pruning, planting and pulling weeds. They care for the grounds around the church as well as Father Kelly Parish Hall.
If you'd like to join this fun, earthy committee giving glory to God by cultivating His gardens, just call or text Nancy Biddlecom at 843-906-5817. Don’t worry if you can’t come every week.
